Bridgerton Season 5 may not premiere until 2027, but Luke Thompson has offered fans a fresh update on the next installment of Netflix’s popular Shondaland series, adapted from Julia Quinn’s novels.

Thompson, who portrays Benedict Bridgerton, took center stage in Season 4 alongside Yerin Ha, who plays Sophie. The actor recently appeared on ITV’s This Morning while promoting his new play, The Lives of Others, with co-star Keira Knightley. During the interview, he confirmed the focus of the upcoming season, saying, “It will be about Francesca and Michaela.”

His remarks reaffirm the previously announced plans for Season 5’s central couple, with Hannah Dodd playing Francesca and Masali Baduza portraying Michaela.

Although the story will shift away from Benedict and Sophie, Thompson reassured viewers that his character won’t disappear from the series, adding, “But obviously Benedict is still around.”

The Bridgerton family remains a key part of the show regardless of which siblings take the spotlight each season. Thompson’s confirmation will therefore come as welcome news to fans eager to see more of Benedict as he settles into his life as a bohemian artist.

Could Benedict and Sophie’s relationship have reached a new milestone by the time Season 5 premieres? It’s an intriguing possibility, especially as newly established couples in the series often return with a baby or one on the way.

For now, Thompson offered an encouraging update on production, teasing, “We just completed [Season 5] now, and yeah, it’s gone well.” That means fans are one step closer to returning to the world of the Ton, with more stories already planned beyond the upcoming season. Season 6 is on the horizon, alongside a prequel spinoff centered on Violet, played by Ruth Gemmell, exploring her love story with Edmund, portrayed by Rupert Evans.

Thompson isn’t the only former Bridgerton leading man expected to return. Previous reports have also hinted that past lead couples, including Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley, along with Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, will have a part to play in Season 5 of the series, as previously teased here.
