Season 3 of Landman is taking shape, and the Paramount+ drama has added a major new name to its cast. Special Ops: Lioness star Michael Kelly is joining the upcoming season as William Crockett, a powerful oil executive who could bring a new level of influence to the series.
Kelly will play Crockett, described as “the leader of the largest oil management firm in the world.” The character is also portrayed as a “titan of industry” whose presence reflects efficiency, wealth, and power.
The casting is especially fitting considering Kelly’s enthusiasm for Landman. While speaking with TV Insider about Lioness, the actor previously made no secret of his desire to join the series, praising its cast and saying he would “lose my mind” if he could become part of its world.
“I just love that show so much,” Kelly said, specifically mentioning Billy Bob Thornton, Sam Elliott, and Andy Garcia. With Kelly now officially joining the cast, that wish appears to have become a reality.
‘Landman’ Season 3 Is Officially Happening
Paramount+ renewed Landman for a third season after Season 2 delivered huge numbers for the streaming service.
According to Paramount+, the Season 2 premiere attracted 9.2 million streams during its first two days. That represented a 262% increase over the show’s Season 1 debut and made it the biggest premiere for a Paramount+ original at the time.
Billy Bob Thornton is also expected to remain at the center of the story as Tommy Norris. The actor previously told USA Today that he was signed to his Landman contract for “four or five years,” suggesting that Tommy’s journey is far from over.
What Could Season 3 Be About?

There is plenty of unfinished business heading into the new season.
Season 2 ended with Tommy facing a dramatically different future. After Cami, played by Demi Moore, took control of M-Tex following her husband’s death, the company was revealed to have serious financial problems. Cami eventually fired Tommy after growing frustrated with his doubts about her decisions.
Meanwhile, Cooper’s story became increasingly complicated. His new oil leases proved extremely promising, but his success came with a dangerous connection when he discovered that his financier, Gallino, was a drug kingpin played by Andy Garcia.
Cooper also experienced major personal upheaval. His relationship with Ariana went through a breakup before the pair became engaged, only for Ariana to later suffer a major trauma.
The finale also introduced Tommy’s father, T.L. Norris, played by Sam Elliott, while setting up what could become one of the biggest storylines of Season 3. Tommy began establishing a new Norris family-owned business, but the decision came with a dangerous complication: Gallino became his partner.
Series co-creator Christian Wallace has suggested there is still plenty of story left to explore. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he said Season 2 was “still just skimming the surface” and that there is “a lot of runway left” as long as the story continues to be worthwhile.
With Michael Kelly now entering the picture as an influential oil industry figure, Season 3 could further expand the show’s world beyond Tommy’s immediate circle.
When Will ‘Landman’ Season 3 Premiere?

A premiere date has not yet been announced, but production is moving forward.
Wallace previously indicated that the series could maintain a similar schedule to Season 2, potentially returning roughly a year after the previous season. More recently, executive producer Stephen Kay offered an even more encouraging update, revealing that the team was editing episodes while filming and hoping the new season would be released soon.
Thornton also confirmed that production on Season 3 was set to begin in Texas in August.
For now, fans will have to wait for Paramount+ to reveal the official premiere date. But with production underway and Michael Kelly joining an already star-studded cast, Landman Season 3 is clearly becoming one of the platform’s major upcoming returns.
