The new dark comedy, The Audacity, is set inside the world of Silicon Valley’s egocentric tech titans
© Ed Araquel/AMCComparisons to Armstrong’s sharp-edged satire were inevitable, and the series has already begun attracting plenty of attention. The show comes from creator and writer Jonathan Glatzer, whose previous credits include Succession, Bad Sisters, and Better Call Saul. With Killing Eve producer Gina Mingacci also involved, the creative team behind the series has given audiences plenty of reason to be intrigued.
What Is The Audacity About?
Set against the high-pressure world of Silicon Valley, The Audacity explores the egos, questionable ethics and grand ambitions of those claiming to shape the future. The official synopsis describes a landscape populated by cynical billionaires, psychiatrist-gurus, bio-hacked tech bros, AI labs and disillusioned teenagers being optimized at elite private schools.
At the centre of the story is an ambitious data-mining CEO, played by Billy Magnussen, who sees an opportunity to transform insight and influence into wealth and power.
The synopsis adds: “The darkly comedic drama confronts reality, privacy, and the delusions fueling our ever-changing world.”
Social Media Reactions Reveal What Audiences Think of The Audacity
The series has already earned enthusiastic responses from viewers online, with some drawing particularly high praise for its sharp storytelling. One fan shared their excitement after watching the show, writing: “Just finished binging #TheAudacity it’s so GOOD,” while another called it “brilliant,” going as far as to describe it as “the best series since Succession. Hands down.”
Not every reaction was entirely unreserved, however. A third viewer praised the show’s ability to hold their attention, writing: “The Audacity delivers a gripping corporate thriller that hooked me, even if it stumbles occasionally and on the landing.”
The show has also won over television critics, earning praise for its compelling characters and darkly comic take on the tech industry. The Guardian awarded it four stars, describing it as “cracking TV packed with even more gloriously awful people than Succession.”
Time also highlighted the appeal of its character-driven storytelling, writing: “If you come to TV for messy, fascinating characters and insight into how those personalities shape our reality, for better or worse, then your patience will be rewarded.”
Collider offered a more measured assessment, noting that while the series has its flaws, its leading star delivers an impressive performance: “The Audacity isn’t perfect, but the effort Magnussen gives nearly is.”
