He’s definitely got a lot going on in his career.
Riley Green just announced that a new album, That’s Just Me, will be released everywhere this fall on September 18. Alongside the announcement, he also dropped a new track, a tribute-style nod to Toby Keith titled “Think As You Drunk.” In a recent interview with Billboard, Green explained that he even wanted to include a sample of Toby Keith’s 2005 hit “As Good As I Once Was,” a song he says his father used to joke was about him.
The new release serves as a fun, upbeat kickoff to his album rollout. In addition to reflecting on life on his Alabama farm and touching briefly on his dating life, Green also opened up about why he prefers to keep his political views out of the public eye, as well as sharing thoughts on his future, including whether or not he might have children one day.
An uncle to several nieces and nephews, Green admitted that while he doesn’t have kids of his own yet, he enjoys spending time with his family. He also joked that his nephew Joe is his “favorite.”
“I don’t have any kids. Yeah, I think about it a lot. Me and my sister Casey’s youngest son Joe are tight. I like all my nieces and nephews, but Joe’s my favorite. He knows that, they know that, it’s fine,” he said.
He went on to explain that even his lifestyle makes long-term planning difficult, comparing it to life on the road with his dog, Carl.
“But I think that it’s kind of like having Carl, you know, who is a dog. In the sense that like, I love having a dog, but I’m in a hotel room today, I’m gonna fly to New York, get in a hotel room, like, where would he be at? So at this point in my life, I don’t know how I could do it.”
Green added that things would need to slow down before he could seriously consider settling down and starting a family, though he does see it as something he would like in the future, noting it could even influence his songwriting in new ways.
He’s currently experiencing a major career moment, balancing life on the road with his Cowboy As It Gets Tour, an upcoming role as a judge on The Voice, and a recent four-episode appearance on the TV series Marshals.
Still, when the time does come for him to settle down, there’s little doubt he won’t have a shortage of people cheering him on.
