With the second season of Prime Video’s The Terminal List now available and director Peter Berg returning with another war film, interest in his earlier military projects is likely to find a new audience. One of those films is his 2013 collaboration with The Terminal List star [Taylor Kitsch], which is set to join Peacock’s library soon. The movie performed well overall, although its success was largely driven by North American audiences rather than international ticket sales. Given the reception of military-focused titles such as The Terminal List and Fury, Berg’s earlier film could also attract renewed attention.
Kitsch was part of an ensemble that included Ben Foster and Emile Hirsch, while Mark Wahlberg took the lead role. Wahlberg and Berg had already built a working relationship through several films during the 2010s, including the disaster drama Deepwater Horizon and the police procedural Patriots Day. Their 2013 project drew on a real event from the War in Afghanistan, when American soldiers came under attack from Taliban forces. Critics were generally positive about the film, though some took issue with its overall tone.
The Movie Paved the Way for More Modern Warfare Films

The film in question is Lone Survivor. Made on a reported $40 million budget, it earned close to $155 million worldwide. Its box office performance was particularly notable for the difference between domestic and overseas revenue: North America accounted for $125 million, while international markets contributed approximately $30 million.
The film arrived a year before Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, which went on to collect nearly $550 million worldwide, including $350 million in North America. On Rotten Tomatoes, Lone Survivor currently holds a 75% Certified Fresh rating, ahead of American Sniper at 71%. The site’s critical consensus describes it as: “A true account of military courage and survival, Lone Survivor wields enough visceral power to mitigate its heavy-handed jingoism.”

Another contemporary military drama, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, is also scheduled to arrive on Starz this month. Berg’s latest film, The Mosquito Bowl, opened in theaters on October 30 ahead of its Netflix debut later in the month. His next project will be the long-awaited Call of Duty movie, written by Taylor Sheridan.
