Jason Statham has been back in the spotlight following the release of the over-the-top trailer for The Beekeeper 2. That has brought renewed attention to his filmography, including Blitz, a crime thriller that is now available to watch for free and also features an actor from the main cast of MobLand.

Released in 2011, Blitz stars Statham alongside Paddy Considine, Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones) and David Morrissey (Tip Toe). Nathan Parker, best known for writing Moon, penned the screenplay, while music video director Elliott Lester took charge behind the camera.

The story follows a serial killer who begins targeting police officers across London. With the city facing a growing threat, an unorthodox and particularly violent detective is tasked with tracking down the murderer and bringing the attacks to an end.

At the time of writing, Blitz is available to watch for free on ITVX. Viewers can also subscribe to ITVX Premium, which costs £5.99 per month or £59.99 annually, for an ad-free experience.

The 2011 thriller should not be confused with the 2024 film of the same name starring Saoirse Ronan. Directed by Steve McQueen, that separate project is set during World War II.

Statham’s Blitz received a divided response from critics, earning a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 24 reviews. This figure means that half of the reviews counted by the site were classified as positive; it does not represent the average rating given by critics.

Unlike Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb calculates an average score based on individual user ratings. Blitz currently holds a rating of 6.2/10 on the site, drawn from more than 97,000 votes.

Audience reviews also offer a range of praise for the crime thriller. One viewer described it as an “excellent police procedural with a moral edge”, highlighting the strength of its supporting cast.

Another called it “a good movie that finally comes to life about 20 to 30 minutes in”, while singling out Gillen’s performance as “a brilliant bad guy” with “a Johnny Rotten swagger”.

Blitz is available to stream now on ITVX.
