Samuel L. Jackson has built an extensive career spanning some of Hollywood’s biggest franchises and acclaimed films. He is widely recognized for his collaborations with Quentin Tarantino, including Pulp Fiction and The Hateful Eight, while his portrayal of Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has helped establish him as one of the highest-grossing actors in film history. Jackson also entered the Star Wars universe during the prequel trilogy, playing Mace Windu, the Jedi known for wielding a distinctive purple lightsaber. Although the character appeared to meet his end in Revenge of the Sith, speculation continues over a possible return in a future project.
More recently, Jackson joined Taylor Sheridan’s television universe with an appearance in the third season of Tulsa King. He has since been tapped to headline its first spin-off, Frisco King. Paramount unveiled the show’s first look not long ago, confirming that the series is scheduled to premiere on December 18.
With a filmography as extensive as Jackson’s, however, some titles are inevitably less familiar to audiences today. One example is Cleaner, a thriller approaching its 20th anniversary next year. It should not be confused with the 2025 Daisy Ridley film of the same name. Once promoted as a potential follow-up to Training Day, the 2007 movie also features Ed Harris and Eva Mendes, with a screenplay by Matthew Aldrich and direction from Renny Harlin.
Cleaner had been available on Netflix for several months, but its run on the service officially came to an end in late October. The film can still be rented or purchased through video-on-demand services, including Prime Video and Apple TV, while news of another streaming destination may follow.

Keke Palmer also appears in a significant role, alongside the late Robert Forster, who died in 2019 and was known for performances in films such as Jackie Brown and Olympus Has Fallen. Despite its notable cast, Cleaner received a mixed-to-poor response, earning just 17% from critics and 40% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film’s official synopsis reads:
“Retired policeman Tom Cutler (Samuel L. Jackson) works as a crime-scene cleaner to support his young daughter. Cutler’s quiet life is thrown into turmoil when woman-in-peril Ann Norcut (Eva Mendes) contacts him in the wake of a routine job. When Norcut reveals that her husband has disappeared – and that his agency has sterilized an apparent crime scene in her home without her permission – Cutler turns to his hardened former partner, police Detective Eddie Lorenzo (Ed Harris), for answers.”
Cleaner is currently available to rent or purchase on VOD services such as Prime Video and Apple TV.
