Alan Ritchson is proving that a movie’s theatrical performance doesn’t always tell the whole story. His latest action thriller, Runner, may have struggled at the box office, but the high-octane adventure has found fresh momentum on streaming, climbing the Prime Video charts just days after becoming available digitally.

Directed by Scott Waugh, the filmmaker behind The Expendables 4, the 2026 film pairs Reacher star Ritchson with Owen Wilson in an unlikely action duo. Together, they find themselves caught in a desperate race against time where one delivery could mean the difference between life and death.
Ritchson plays Hank Malone, a former Army Special Forces operative who now works as a professional courier handling high-value deliveries. His latest assignment seems straightforward: transport a donated liver to a hospital so a critically ill young girl can receive a life-saving transplant.
But everything goes wrong when Hank encounters Ben Bishop, played by Wilson, who becomes involved in the dangerous mission. Before long, the pair discover that a ruthless cartel is determined to seize the organ, turning what should have been a medical delivery into a violent pursuit across Australia.
With armed attackers closing in, explosive car chases erupting around them and precious time slipping away, Hank and Ben must find a way to get the organ to its destination before the child’s chance of survival disappears.
The film also features Rodrigo Santoro as the formidable antagonist Damian, alongside Leila George and other members of the supporting cast. Its blend of brutal action, dark humor and an unexpectedly emotional central mission gives the story more than just another succession of fight scenes.
Although Runner reportedly earned around $18 million worldwide against a production budget of up to $45 million, its streaming performance tells a different story. According to CBR’s October 17 report, the film had climbed into Prime Video’s top five most-watched titles in the United States and the international top 10, just two days after its streaming debut.
With Ritchson’s imposing action-star presence and Wilson’s contrasting personality, Runner is finding an audience beyond theaters. And for viewers who enjoy relentless chases, unlikely partnerships and high-stakes missions, this fast-paced thriller may be worth discovering.
