With Christmas getting closer, it is the perfect time to revisit a festive performance from two of Britain’s finest voices. Sir Tom Jones and Beverley Knight joined forces for Children, Go Where I Send Thee, bringing plenty of gospel spirit to the traditional Christmas song.

The performance was part of Tom Jones and Beverley Knight’s Gospel Christmas, a BBC special recorded in Cardiff in 2017. The pair hosted the programme together, welcoming guests including Jessie Ware and Kwabs, alongside the London Community Gospel Choir and the House Gospel Choir.
As the show’s closing number, Children, Go Where I Send Thee gave Tom and Beverley a chance to let loose with its lively gospel arrangement. The traditional spiritual builds through a series of verses counting from one to twelve, with the repeated refrain giving the singers and choir plenty of room to bring energy into the performance.
Tom’s unmistakable, full-bodied voice works particularly well alongside Beverley’s powerful soul vocals. Their combination, backed by the gospel sound of the choirs, makes for an uplifting finish and a welcome reminder of how special Christmas music can be when great voices come together.
