Jelly Roll’s live shows have long been known for their emotional moments, with the “Need a Favor” hitmaker often pausing mid-performance to acknowledge fans holding signs and sharing their personal stories. His recent appearance at Boots in the Park once again reflected that connection with the audience.

In a newly released vlog from the event, Jelly Roll is seen meeting a young fan named Hunter backstage before going on stage. During their conversation about Jelly’s role in the upcoming GOAT movie, Hunter opened up about his recent journey of undergoing two heart transplants.
Hunter also shared a heartfelt moment, explaining that because his doctor’s name was Dr. Stone — and he is a big Jelly Roll fan — he asked if they could listen to Jelly’s song “Heart of Stone” during his recovery.
Moved by the story, Jelly Roll responded with appreciation, saying, “Thank you for making me the soundtrack to your recovery,” before later performing the track live on stage in Hunter’s honor.
During the show, Jelly Roll took a moment to share Hunter’s story with the packed audience, pausing the set to reflect on the meaning behind the performance and the people who have faced real struggles in life.
“If y’all don’t mind, I’m fixing to switch something up on the setlist… It was making me think about people who have gotten through really, really traumatic times and went through real struggles in their life and made it out the other side of it. The survivors,” he told the crowd.
He continued by highlighting the emotional weight of the moment, adding, “Made me think about the real warriors, the ones that are willing to fight every single day. I got to meet a cool little dude today, y’all… There’s Hunter, y’all. That young man has survived two heart transplants at the age of nine years old.”
Jelly then revealed more details to the audience, explaining that Hunter had just been released from hospital earlier that day in Colorado, and his family had driven eight hours just to attend the show.
He went on to share how Hunter requested a song that wasn’t originally on the setlist, saying that during his treatment, his doctor — Dr. Stone — had asked what he wanted to hear, and Hunter chose Jelly Roll’s “Heart of Stone,” creating a deeply personal connection between music, healing, and his recovery journey.
The moment became another powerful example of Jelly Roll’s connection with fans, as he continues to use his platform to highlight stories of resilience, hope, and healing through music from his album Beautifully Broken.
