Kate Wyler is heading back into the diplomatic fire — and this time, the biggest threat may be coming from inside her own circle.
Netflix has released the official trailer for Season 4 of The Diplomat, bringing Keri Russell back as Ambassador Kate Wyler for another chapter of international tension, political maneuvering and deeply complicated relationships. The award-winning series returns to Netflix on October 15, 2026, with eight episodes.
The new season picks up after the explosive events of Season 3, leaving Kate facing an increasingly difficult situation. The fragile peace she helped establish between the United States and the United Kingdom is under threat, while her already complicated marriage to Hal Wyler is facing another major crisis.
Rufus Sewell returns as Hal, who is now Vice President of the United States. But his position puts him dangerously close to President Grace Penn, played by Allison Janney.
And their alliance could have consequences far beyond the White House.
According to Netflix’s official synopsis, Grace and Hal are involved in a conspiracy to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon — an operation that could push the United States toward war. Kate is forced to confront the possibility that people she once trusted are now creating an international crisis of their own.
That puts Kate in an unusual position.
Rather than simply managing tensions between governments, she must now navigate a political crisis that is tangled directly into her personal life. The trailer shows her questioning Grace’s increasingly aggressive decisions while warning that the administration has crossed a dangerous line.
Meanwhile, Kate finds an unexpected ally in Todd Penn, Grace’s husband and the First Gentleman, played by Bradley Whitford.

The partnership is particularly intriguing because Kate and Todd are hardly natural allies. Yet with Grace and Hal becoming increasingly aligned, the two spouses left behind may have no choice but to work together.
That shifting relationship dynamic is at the heart of Season 4.
Series creator and showrunner Debora Cahn has described the new season as being built around four characters — Kate, Hal, Grace and Todd — whose professional responsibilities are putting enormous pressure on their marriages. Netflix describes them as two couples caught together in an increasingly unstable situation.
The new season also brings an important change to the cast. Janney and Whitford, who previously appeared as Grace and Todd Penn, have been promoted to series regulars alongside Nana Mensah, further expanding their roles in the story.

For fans of The Diplomat, the new trailer promises a season where political power and personal loyalty become almost impossible to separate.
Kate has spent years trying to keep governments from turning against one another.
Now, she may have to stop the people closest to her from doing exactly that.
Season 4 of The Diplomat premieres October 15, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
