The FBI may have taken down Anna’s strike team, but OA’s undercover mission could leave deeper scars than anyone expected. Jeremy Sisto is warning that his colleague’s return to the team will bring a troubling emotional aftermath, one that could test his partnership with Maggie in an entirely new way.
Following the third episode of FBI Season 9, Jubal Valentine (Sisto) and the rest of the team have helped bring Anna (Claire Coffee) into custody. But the victory comes at a cost, as OA (Zeeko Zaki) appears to be struggling with the person he became while working undercover.
In an interview with TV Insider, Sisto discussed the operation’s conclusion, the evolving relationships within the FBI team and what viewers can expect from Jubal in the episodes ahead.

OA’s Return May Not Be as Simple as It Seems
The investigation reached a turning point when OA successfully planted a listening device, allowing the team to uncover Anna’s connection to Ernest Carver (Terry Serpico), the under secretary of defense.
Carver had helped Anna protect his son after a teenage girl died in a car incident. The investigation eventually revealed that Carver himself had been in the vehicle that night. After the FBI uncovered the truth, he agreed to turn against Anna, helping the team move closer to bringing her down.
However, by the time the agents arrived to arrest Anna and extract OA, his cover had been blown. OA was beaten by Devin before the confrontation escalated into a shootout between the FBI and the strike team. Despite the danger, OA managed to fight back and even saved Devin from falling to his death.
For Sisto, taking down Anna was about more than closing a case. He explained that the operation became personal because the team was confronting someone willing to disregard basic moral principles.
He compared the investigation to removing a cancer from an organization, emphasizing that the team needed to eliminate not only the immediate threat but also the wider corruption surrounding it.
Yet the most significant consequences may emerge after the operation ends.
Sisto revealed that OA will face difficult challenges as he returns to normal duties, with his partnership with Maggie (Missy Peregrym) likely to be tested in a new way.
“There is something pretty dark that seems to be happening within him at this point,” Sisto said.
The actor added that the creative team is working to explore OA’s emotional struggles in a way that feels authentic and earned, drawing on the history and complexity of the show’s established relationships.
The episode’s closing moments hint at that internal conflict. When Maggie reunites with OA at a bar, she admits that there were times when she genuinely thought he had died. OA explains that staying in contact would have put everyone at risk if his cover had been compromised.
But when Maggie remarks that he must be happy to have his FBI badge back, his reaction suggests that returning to his old life may be more complicated than expected.

Jubal and Isobel Have Some Unfinished Business
The operation also exposed a delicate moment in the relationship between Jubal and Isobel Castille (Alana De La Garza).
Jubal discovered the undercover mission after following Isobel, prompting him to apologize. Isobel explained that she had deliberately kept him out of the loop because she did not want him to talk her out of the decision.
Sisto acknowledged that Jubal would likely have challenged her throughout the process, even if he ultimately respected her authority.
“He sees multiple sides to most issues,” the actor explained, noting that this quality can be valuable but sometimes frustrating when a difficult decision has already been made.
Although the two will need to have a conversation about what happened, Sisto does not expect the incident to destroy their longstanding professional relationship. Jubal understands why Isobel made her choice and does not blame her, even if some hurt or questions remain.
Their mutual respect, he suggested, will remain the foundation of their partnership.
The mission also gave the team an opportunity to learn more about ADIC Lawrence Green (Curtiss Cook). Initially uncertain about the new leader, Jubal was surprised when Green decided to join the operation after discovering what the team was doing.
Sisto explained that Green’s early hard-line approach may have been a way of testing the people around him rather than a sign that he expected them to compromise their morals. The actor also praised Cook’s performance, describing him as a welcome addition who brings warmth and energy to the series.
One particularly meaningful moment came when Jubal handed OA his badge back, symbolizing the agent’s return after his dangerous undercover assignment.
Jubal’s Marriage Could Face Another Test
While OA’s emotional journey will be a major focus, Sisto also teased a challenging storyline for Jubal’s family.
The actor revealed that he will appear in an upcoming episode of CIA, where Jubal helps Nikki (Necar Zadegan) with a case. He described the crossover as a fun change of pace, allowing for a slightly different tone and more opportunities for humor.
However, the outlook becomes more serious in upcoming FBI episodes. Sisto said he had heard early pitches for a storyline in which Jubal’s wife becomes entangled in his work.
The development could put renewed pressure on their marriage, which has been in a good place for some time. Sisto pointed to the difficulties of being married to someone whose job regularly exposes them to danger and unpredictable situations.
Previously, one of Jubal’s confidential informants showed up at the family home, prompting him to promise his wife that it would never happen again. The upcoming storyline may challenge that promise.
Sisto suggested that the series will once again explore the difficult balance between an agent’s professional responsibilities and family life, while avoiding unnecessary drama.
He also acknowledged that Jubal’s children, including his daughter, could offer possibilities for future storylines, though he did not confirm whether she would become involved in the plot.
For now, Jubal’s home life appears relatively stable, but Sisto cautioned viewers against becoming too comfortable. When family matters enter the world of FBI, it often means something has gone seriously wrong.
With Anna behind bars, OA facing an uncertain emotional recovery and Jubal potentially confronting new challenges at home, the aftermath of the undercover operation may prove just as consequential as the takedown itself.
FBI airs Mondays at 8/7c on CBS.
